Cosmetic Surgery Gone Wrong - What are your Rights?

Cosmetic Surgery Gone Wrong - What are your Rights?

Cosmetic procedures are one of the fastest-growing industries in the UK today, with new cosmetic surgery techniques making it easier than ever for people to tweak their body to their liking.

What is cosmetic surgery?

Cosmetic surgery is a procedure used to reconstruct or alter your body in some way. The techniques were initially pioneered to help people who had been left with disfigurements as a result of accidents, however, medics quickly saw the potential to use these techniques to help anyone make changes to their appearance. And so a booming industry was born.

In 2015 more than 51,000 people had cosmetic surgery, a 12.6% rise from 2014 and almost double that of 2005 when just 22,000 cosmetic surgery procedures took place. Non-surgical procedures increase this number even further, with procedures such as botox and lip fillers able to be performed with a few quick injections.

Unfortunately, regulations still haven’t quite caught up with this massive growth in cosmetic surgery, making it all too simple for unqualified individuals to perform these procedures. It should therefore be of no surprise that figures have shown up to 20% of people who have had procedures are unhappy with the results.

Can I make a claim for negligent cosmetic surgery?

Cosmetic surgeons are beholden to the same negligence laws as any other profession. If a procedure is performed on you incorrectly or without clearly informing you of the risks beforehand you will be able to make a claim for compensation for the financial and personal losses incurred as a result of the surgery.

What cosmetic procedures can I claim for?

You can make a claim for any type of cosmetic surgery which has gone wrong, including:

  • Liposuction.
  • Breast implants.
  • Botox injections.
  • Lip fillers.
  • Facelifts.
  • Eyelid surgery.
  • Nose reshaping.
