The government has been called upon to take action to save criminal legal aid. An offer made by the government earlier this year has been described as ‘woefully inadequate’. Since 2010 there has been a significant reduction in the number of firms who hold a legal aid contract for crime. It is worrying that at times a person questioned by the police may not have access to legal representation as a result which may even lead to deprivation of a fair trial.
REMEMBER It is your legal right to have a solicitor present when the police formally question you whether under arrest or not.
