Earlier this year the Court of Appeal considered an ongoing case to determine the validity of an Islamic marriage ceremony (Nikah). The consequences of this decision related to how it applied to the rights that follow if an individual is legally married to pursue financial claims such as orders relating to spousal maintenance, property orders, lump sum orders and orders sharing pension assets.
