Miss C was in significant pain and it was only due to her persistence in repeatedly attending her GP and calling the Breast Clinic for cancellations that she obtained an appointment some 12 weeks after noticing the presence of the lump.
An ultrasound revealed a mass in the breast which was removed. Biopsies confirmed this was breast cancer. Fortunately the cancer has not returned.
Garratts obtained expert medical evidence which identified various breaches of duty of care. Had both the GP and the Trust managed Miss C’s care appropriately and had the Suspected Cancer Guidelines been followed, Miss C would have been spared months of pain, suffering and worry. It is unfortunate that apparent prejudices that such a person could not contract breast cancer delayed the care Miss C deserved.
