Helen Dowd is celebrating 25 years with the firm

Helen joined Garratts in 1997 as a receptionist/office junior, her first job since leaving college. This was a role which she enjoyed for a number of years. During this time she learnt how to type and started to assist in the Crown Court department. It was clear that Helen enjoyed working within this department and felt it hugely rewarding.

Criminal law had always been something that Helen had an interest in. Her late grandfather was a court clerk at the Manchester Crown Court for many years and she has fond memories of him talking about his job and showing her around the court building when she was young.

Thereafter an opportunity arose for her to become a permanent member of the Crown Court team, attending at court and generally assisting fee earners in the preparation of cases.

With the support of the firm Helen progressed to a fee earner and began to manage her own case load.

Helen was made an Associate and head of the Crown Court department in 2021.

"The thing that I love about Garratts is the fact that they believe in developing their staff to help them reach their true potential and they are committed to helping people from all walks of life which is why the criminal Department is so important and so successful."
