NS, an elderly gentleman, attended the Royal Oldham Hospital and was admitted for treatment due to generally feeling unwell and with a possible urinary tract infection.
There was a failure to identify NS as being at risk of dehydration and a failure to maintain food and fluid records. This led to an acute kidney injury and dehydration. There was then a failure to escalate NS’s deteriorating condition leading to a precipitous decline in his health and his untimely death. If the dehydration had been identified and treated sooner subsequent sepsis that developed and his death would have been avoided.
Garratts were successful in obtaining £3,000.00 in compensation on behalf of NS.
