Delayed Crohns Disease success for Mrs K

Delayed Crohns Disease success for Mrs K

Mrs K has succeeded in her clinical negligence claim and has been awarded £150,000 as a result.

Mrs K began suffering with symptoms of Crohn’s Disease and accordingly was referred to hospital by her GP. When Mrs K underwent a colonoscopy, however, the procedure was incomplete and no outcome was found for the symptoms she was suffering from.

She went on to suffer as the months went by so much so that unfortunately she had to undergo life-saving emergency surgery due to the fact that she had a severe bowel obstruction caused by the Crohn’s Disease. She also went on to require an ileostomy which meant she had to live with a stoma for over 2 years before the same could be reversed.

In addition to suffering significant physical problems with her Crohn’s Disease which could have been avoided, Mrs K also suffered severe psychological problems and was no longer able to work as a consequence of the situation that she found herself in.

Mrs K’s medical expert team were able to show that had other investigations been carried out when the colonoscopy failed, that the diagnosis could have been made earlier, therefore avoiding the emergency surgery along with the other physical and psychological consequences.

Mrs K was awarded £150,000 in compensation for her injuries.
