The hospital were negligent in that they did not clean, swab or dress the wound which led to the wound becoming infected. The wound continued to deteriorate and break down causing significant tissue damage. Mrs E required surgical debridement to her foot, her recovery was prolonged and she was left with significant scarring.
Mrs E’s medical experts were able to show that the infection would have been avoided but for the negligent treatment and that her outcome would have been less severe, her recovery period reduced and the scarring less significant.
Mrs E was successful in obtaining £17,500 in compensation for her injuries.
