Fabric Machine Operative Suffered Amputation of the Tip of Finger

Fabric Machine Operative Suffered Amputation of the Tip of Finger

The Claimant approached Garratts Solicitors following a workplace accident. The Claimant worked in a factory dealing with rolls of fabric for blinds. A work colleague incorrectly operated the machine, resulting in the amputation of the tip of her right index finger. The Claimant was able to retrieve the tip of the finger and was conveyed to hospital.

Medical Treatment and Recovery

She underwent surgery and follow-up appointments at a Plastic Surgery Clinic.

Impact on Daily Life

The deformity of the fingertip resulted in the Claimant struggling to manipulate small items, such as picking up a screw or tying shoelaces. She felt discomfort and cold in the finger and suffered depression as a result of the incident.

Legal Proceedings and Outcome

Unusually, the Defendants disputed the cause of the accident but, following a site inspection conceded that a trainee had operated the machine incorrectly and agreed to compensate the Claimant.
