Mr P underwent a knee replacement at a local private hospital. Immediately following the procedure, he noticed a blister on his heel. This was noted whilst he was still in hospital but no action was taken. The blister proceeded to burst and developed into a Grade 4 pressure sore/ulcer which required extensive treatment.
Mr P suffered unnecessary pain in his heel, a prolonged recovery, additional time was required off work which led to loss of earnings and he also suffered psychologically as a consequence. He has also been left with permanent scarring and sensitivity on his heel where the ulcer was.
There was a complete failure on the part of the hospital to prevent the pressure ulcer – no methods of prevention were put in place and had they been so, the blister would have not developed to the severity that it did.
Garratts obtained supportive expert evidence on Mr P’s behalf and were able to achieve an early settlement on his behalf in the sum of £32,500.
