Garratts Solicitors are pleased to have secured settlement in the sum of £13,500.00, on behalf of Mr G, following a failure to provide essential vitamin B supplementation - contrary to NICE guidelines and internal protocols.
Failure to Follow Medical Advice
Mr G was admitted to hospital in November 2020 after suffering a stroke. Despite a clear recommendation from a dietician to administer Vitamin B1 and B Compound supplements, this crucial treatment was omitted.
Avoidable Harm and Delayed Diagnosis
As a result, Mr G developed symptoms consistent with Wernicke’s Encephalopathy, including confusion, cognitive dysfunction, and difficulties with speech and swallowing. These symptoms were not formally investigated until February 2021, when a doctor raised concerns and initiated appropriate treatment.
Hospital Trust Admits Failures
By that time, Mr G had already suffered significant and avoidable harm.
In their formal Letter of Response, the Defendant Trust admitted multiple breaches of duty, acknowledged that these failures contributed to Mr G’s cognitive decline, and issued a formal apology for the shortcomings in care.
