Garratts are pleased to announce Shelly McGovern has successfully completed her Licensed Conveyancer Apprenticeship achieving Level 4 and 6 diplomas in conveyancing law and practice. Shelly has worked at Garratts since 2004 starting as a conveyancing secretary and worked her way up to her current role as conveyancing executive. The qualification enables Shelly to submit her application to become a Licensed Conveyancer regulated by the Council of Licensed Conveyancers.

The firm has joined the scheme, which runs throughout November, for the eighth year in a row. We have raised £7,075 for the nine charities involved since joining the scheme. The Will Aid scheme takes place across the country until November 30 and supports ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland).

Garratts have successfully obtained compensation for Miss C as a result of the negligence of a local hospital as far back as 1996. Miss C was advised in 1996 that her right kidney had failed and also that she had multiple kidney stones within the same. She was not appropriately advised to have surgery to remove the failing kidney at this appointment or at any subsequent appointments.

The claimant, aged 87 was a pedestrian and was crossing a main road when she was struck and knocked down and dragged along underneath a van. It appears that the Defendant simply did not see the Claimant.

The aim of the residence nil-rate band (RNRB) is to allow a family home to be passed down the without incurring inheritance tax. The RNRB applies to individuals with direct descendants who have an estate (including a main residence) that exceeds the inheritance tax (IHT) threshold (or nil-rate band) of £325,000 for 2019/20.
