NHS Review Focused on John Bradley Williamson

NHS Review Focused on John Bradley Williamson

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust has recently published the findings of its Spinal Patient Safety Look Back Review. The focus of the Review was regarding  Consultant Spinal Surgeon John Bradley Williamson, who was employed by the Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust up until January 2015.

The Review considered worrying themes, including decision-making against Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) advice, lack of informed consent, poor post-operative planning and delays in surgery. The Review then drew various conclusions, such as compliance with the informed consent process was poor in a high number of cases, surgical techniques were poor in multiple cases, and there were significant professional issues with Mr Williamson’s practice (for example, unacceptable and unprofessional conduct with patients).

The Review includes an action plan detailing steps the Trust should now take to address the findings, including auditing MDT minutes for accuracy and reliability, auditing consent processes and learning from the Review by sharing findings with various organisations.

If you received treatment from Mr Williamson and believe clinical negligence may have occurred, please contact our specialist team on 0161 665 3502.
